Plumber website design

Nobody shortlists a plumber. There is water coming through the ceiling, they search on a phone, and they ring one of the first results that looks legitimate. You are either in that moment or you are not.

Plumbing work is often urgent, so the job goes to whoever shows up first in search and looks reliable. We build plumber sites built around call-outs, local suburb search and reviews, so you catch the work the moment someone needs a plumber near them.

What holds most plumber websites back

  • The phone number is not tappable, or it is buried in a footer. On an emergency search that alone loses the job to the next result.
  • The site is slow on mobile. A hero video and six web fonts are fine on a desktop and fatal on a phone on patchy reception, which is where the call is coming from.
  • No suburb pages. Plumbers get found on a service plus a suburb, and a single Areas We Service page listing forty suburbs ranks for none of them.
  • No licence number anywhere. It is the fastest credibility check a customer makes, most states require it in advertising, and it is routinely left off the site.

Built for the emergency search

Most plumbing enquiries are urgent and most arrive on a phone. That single fact should drive every decision on the site, and on most plumber websites it drives none of them.

In practice it means the page loads in about a second on mobile data, the phone number is fixed to the screen and tappable, after-hours availability is stated up front rather than buried, and the service area is obvious immediately so nobody wastes a call.

It also means being honest about response times. Someone with a burst pipe wants to know if you can be there today. A site that answers that gets the call, even when it is not the prettiest one in the results.

A page per service, a page per suburb

Blocked drains, hot water systems, gas fitting, leak detection, burst pipes, roof plumbing and backflow prevention are separate searches by people with separate problems. Each deserves its own page.

The same applies to geography. People search for a plumber in their suburb, not in their state, and a single page listing every suburb you cover will not rank for any of them. Real pages for the suburbs that actually matter to you will.

This is where the research matters. There is no point building forty suburb pages if only six carry demand, and no point ignoring a service that people search for constantly. We find out which is which before anything gets written.

Your Google Business Profile does the heavy lifting

For plumbers, the map pack usually sits above the organic results, which makes the Google Business Profile at least as important as the website. Plenty of plumbers get more calls from Maps than from their site.

That means the profile needs the right primary category, every service listed, real job photos, service areas set correctly, and a steady flow of reviews. Reviews are the strongest single lever in this trade, and most plumbers have no system for asking.

We build the website and the profile from the same keyword research, so the terms you want to be found for are consistent across both.

Proof beats polish

Plumbing customers are wary of being overcharged and of shoddy work. What settles that is evidence, not design. Your licence number visible, real photos of your own jobs rather than stock imagery, reviews on the page, and clear wording on how you charge.

Stock photos of a smiling model holding a wrench actively hurt. People recognise them. A genuine photo of your van and your work does more for conversion than any amount of styling.

Concept build

A plumber site we designed from scratch

Dark, industrial and built for the emergency call, with technical drawing details and fixed price job cards.

Copperline Plumbing Co. is a fictional business we invented so we could design a complete plumber site end to end, without a client brief limiting it. It is a real, working site you can click through, not a mockup or a theme you can buy. Yours would be shaped around your trade, your suburbs and your customers.

What's included in every build

Every site starts with proper research. That shapes everything else.

Keyword research first

Before writing a word of copy we find what plumbers and plumbing businesses actually search for locally and nationally. The site is built around those terms, not around what sounds good in a meeting.

Mobile-first build

Most enquiries for plumbers come from a phone. Every site we build loads fast on mobile, looks clean at every screen size and makes contacting you as easy as one tap.

Copy that converts

We write the copy. Short, plain sentences that explain what you do, for whom, and what to do next. No filler, no buzzwords. Written for plumbers and plumbing businesses clients, not search engines.

Google Business Profile

The website and the profile are built from the same keyword data. Your profile gets a proper description, services, posts and photo guidance so it surfaces in the local pack and on Maps.

Speed and technical basics

Correct meta titles and descriptions, structured data, sitemap and a build that passes Core Web Vitals. The foundations that make everything else work.

Ongoing support

You get a handover, documentation and the option to keep us on monthly for updates and Google Business Profile management. No lock-in. No retainer you don't need.

One operator, not an agency

Most web design agencies have a sales team, a project manager and a developer who you'll never speak to directly. You brief the sales person, the project manager translates it (partially), and something gets built that may or may not reflect what you asked for.

I do the research, write the copy, build the site and set up the Google Business Profile. One person, accountable for all of it. No handoffs, no miscommunication, no junior doing the work the senior sold.

I've spent 30 years in business, mostly in trade and distribution. I understand what plumbers need from a website because I understand how businesses like yours actually work. That background shapes everything from the structure of the page to the words in the meta description.

Common questions

Do I need separate pages for each suburb I service?
For the suburbs that carry real search demand, yes. A single Areas We Service page listing forty suburbs will not rank for any of them, because it is not really about any of them. We research which suburbs actually have people searching for a plumber before building anything, so you get pages that earn their place rather than forty that do not.
What matters most for a plumber website?
Speed on mobile and a tappable phone number, ahead of everything else. Most plumbing searches are urgent and happen on a phone, and the job usually goes to one of the first credible results the person can ring immediately. Everything else is secondary to being fast and easy to call.
Is my Google Business Profile more important than my website?
Often yes. The map pack usually appears above the organic results for plumbing searches, and many plumbers get more calls from Maps than from their website. The two work best built together off the same research, which is how we do it.
Should my licence number be on the site?
Yes. Most states require it in advertising and customers use it as a quick credibility check regardless. Put it in the footer and on the contact page. It costs nothing and its absence is noticed.
How do I get more reviews?
By asking every time, at the right moment, with a link that takes one tap. Reviews are the strongest lever in this trade and most plumbers have no system for it. Our Google Business Profile management includes setting that process up so it happens without you having to think about it.
What does a plumber website cost?
A refresh of an existing site starts from $1,950 and a research-led build from scratch starts from $2,950, including the service and suburb pages the research says are worth building. Ongoing Google Business Profile management is from $199 per month, which for most plumbers is where the calls come from.
